It is used to recall information, like trying to remember the sentences while not looking at it. For example:<ul><li>When memorzing facts, I read it then close my notebook and try to remember the fact. </li></ul>This is a valuable skill to memorize what you learned! My reccomendation is using it for concepts and facts that need to be memorized first before anything else.

Active Recall 📒

Highlighting or underlining random texts and remembering them is a form of distinction. Making information stand out, one more eye-catching than the other making it more valuable for the memory. For example:<ul><li>The information and persuasiveness of a book determines it's value. </li></ul>The word 'book' is bold while 'information' and 'persuasiveness' is underlined. To stand out than the other words.

Distinctiveness

Finally the last technique of encoding is memory traces. This is where you put the information in a variety of memories through your senses, acting, or anything. For example:<ul><li>I saw the information with my eye, I read aloud for my ear to hear. In the test, I remember hearing and seeing the information. </li></ul>As you see, you have a bunch of paths to information to not forget some of it!
