Human trafficking is the trade of humans for the purpose of forced labour, sexual slavery, or commercial sexual exploitation. Human trafficking can occur within a country or trans-nationally. What Is Human Trafficking

Control: The victim is unable to leave their home or place of work, or they are unable to speak for themselves. They may also appear to be coached on what to say, or someone else seems to be in control. Identification: The victim's identification documents are held by someone else. Living conditions: The victim is living in unsuitable conditions, or they have few or no personal possessions. They may also be living with their employer. Behavior changes: The victim may exhibit a sudden or dramatic change in behavior. They may also appear fearful, submissive, tense, or paranoid.

Abuse: The victim may show signs of mental or physical abuse, such as disorientation or confusion. They may also have physical injuries or branding, such as tattoos on their face or chest. Debt: The victim may owe a large debt that they are unable to pay off. Work: The victim may be working long or excessive hours, or they may be paid very little or not at all. They may also be forced to pay for their own tools or equipment. Isolation: The victim may be kept isolated, physically or emotionally.

According to the Duluth Model, the more subtle behaviors listed above are thought by many to possibly allow the abuser to maintain power and control in the relationship. Additionally, they may reinforce the regular use of these behaviors in tandem with violence.

Often, those who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence might feel alone or trapped in their situation. For some, it can be challenging to recognize actions as domestic violence—which can complicate one’s vision of a happy, calm and safe experience in one’s relationships.

We do want to note that while domestic violence campaigns and quotes may be written with those who identify as women in mind, many people of any gender, orientation, and age might find themselves in unsafe or unhealthy situations. Having strong self-esteem encourages us to push through challenges, try new things, and believe in ourselves. Self-esteem is highly influential in how we see ourselves, which shapes our behaviors and decisions.

Overprotecting Constantly shielding a child from challenges and obstacles can prevent them from developing <a href="https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/basics/confidence">confidence </a>and a sense of competence. Putting a child down through sarcasm creates an obstacle for parents trying to communicate effectively.

It’s easy to say, “I just won’t do that anymore,” and still fall into the pattern of repeating these problematic behaviors. Occasional slips may occur. When they do, address these negative behaviors with your child.

This can include tantrums, expressing resentments, frequently being argumentative, and defying reasonable requests. Many children and teens have admitted tome that these negative emotions and behaviors they engage in after feeling hurt by their parents.

Less Defiant Child 

Craig had made very strong progress in relating to his son in a far less critical manner—until one night when Tom and Craig were at a soccer awards banquet, and Tom sarcastically mocked him for looking down when he received his award. I coached Craig not to beat himself up, and he was determined to continue to be less controlling and more open. With this in mind, Craig approached Tom and said, “Tom, I <a href="https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/basics/forgiveness">apologize </a>for being so sarcastic and critical of you. Seeing you up there, getting that award, made me feel honored to be your father.”
