The main reason, why positive thinking is hard is because our society is filled with a negative atmosphere or in other ways negative thoughts about life. It could be an event, It could be news or people. And, no - matter how much we try these things keep coming back toward us or hunting us down. The best way, to rid of them is. We need to less expose ourselves to these things.
