The Challenge

Building habits is a simple thing. Our species has done it for millions of years. And our ability to automate activities gave us the power to evolve in many fields. But we have always done it out of intuition.If you try to build a habit deliberately, you must know how it works. Otherwise, you will fail.When I started with personal growth, I failed many times because I had to figure out what I was doing. And every time I failed, I learned something new.So, let’s start with a definition – what’s a habit? Have you ever wondered?

Goal vs. Purpose Habits (1)

It’s easy to find a simple answer. A habit is a repetitive action we do every day. But that’s not enough to understand how to build one.First, you must understand the difference between Goal Habits and Purpose Habits.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Goal Habits are tasks that imply success or failure every time you finish them. And every repetition is independent.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Purpose Habits are tasks you must repeat to achieve a long-term goal that defines your life.</li></ul>

You can find many answers online to this question. Everybody tries to sell you the fastest way to build healthy habits. But unfortunately, it’s not that simple.According to science, you will build a habit between 18 and 254 days. And this wide range depends on many things:<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">your predisposition for the habit</li><li class="ql-align-justify">the type of habit (goal or purpose-based)</li><li class="ql-align-justify">and the formula you use to build it.</li></ul>You can’t control the first two factors of the formula. But you can become better at building automatic, repetitive tasks.

How long does it take to build a habit?

It took me years to discover how my body works and how to build lasting habits. But talking with some of you, I found out we are similar. And many of you experienced the same things.Therefore, I wrote this habit-building formula to help everyone in this community who wants to improve.I split the formula into six steps:<ol><li class="ql-align-justify">Map your habits.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Bind them to new activities.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Build a mental roadmap.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Fit your tasks into your schedule.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Use rewarding systems carefully.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">And build a 21-day habit challenge.</li></ol>

How to Build Habits That Last Forever

First, you must map your habits to understand your good and bad tendencies. And you can use these as entry points for other habits you want to build.For example, if you have a strong, simple habit like brushing your teeth, you can link it to a new habit like reading. And every time your brain triggers the first habit, it will also carry on the second.But that will only work if your first habit is strong enough. So, how can you measure habit strength?

1 – Map your habits.

You can use this simple formula to give each habit a score between 0 and 100.Strength = Context Independence x Motivation Threshold <ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Context Independence (0-10) defines how much the environment influences your habit. The less it does, the higher you will score.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Motivation Threshold (0-10) is the mental strength you need to engage with the habit. The higher the motivation you need, the lower the score.</li></ul>You can rank your habits strength as:<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Strong with a score above 70.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Medium with a score between 50 and 70.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">And weak scores below 50.</li></ul>

Habit Strength Formula

Once you have a map, it’s time to use it to find the treasure, right?In this case, the treasure is your ability to build new habits. So, how can you find it?It’s simple. Just bind your strong and medium habits to new things you want to try.

2 – Bind your habits. (1)

You can use this simple pattern:"After/Before [habit you already have], I will [habit you want to build]." But there are a few things you might consider.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Don’t bind medium-strength habits with new things that don’t excite you. They won’t have enough power to carry them.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Also, you can bind new healthy activities to bad habits. So, every time you do something bad, you compensate for it. And hopefully, in the long run, you get rid of the unhealthy part.</li></ul>

2 – Bind your habits.

Most habits we want to build fail before even starting. And that’s because we never have time to introduce those new activities into our routines.But a simple visualization exercise could do the trick!You will likely start a new habit if you visualize the exact steps it will take to achieve it at least once. And there are plenty of studies that show that. Huberman talked a lot about it on his podcast (which I also used as a starting point for this article.) 3 – Build a mental roadmap.

You won’t have any benefits in terms of consistency if you schedule a habit. However, we are busy people. We are full of commitments. So, a strict schedule can help us track everything we wish to do.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">As you wake up, dive into physical exercise and external activities. Use it for exhausting activities with high returns.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Then, your serotonin levels will rise. So, you want to slow down with relaxing activities like yoga, meditation, or other self-reflection habits.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">And finally, you have to go to sleep. So keep this time for activities that help you transition into sleep.</li></ul>

4 – Fit your tasks into your schedule.

Have you ever noticed that part of the happiness we get for completing a task comes from thinking we are about to finish it?Studies show that the expectation of a reward can already release dopamine in our brains. And those feelings grow even bigger when we succeed. But there’s also a downside.If you anticipate your success and then fail, the failure will also hit stronger. So, you must be careful when using a reward system because it can become a nightmare if you are not <a href="https://www.cosmopolitanmindset.com/top-5-keys-to-building-self-discipline-for-a-better-life/">disciplined </a>.

5 – Use rewarding systems carefully.

Now that you know everything about habits, it’s time to create some. So, I will give you a technique I learned from Huberman that helped me build new habits consistently. I call it the 21-Day Habit Challenge.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">First, list six new habits you want to try over the next 21 days. I expect you to build only four of five of them.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Every day, you will try to achieve all your habits.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Chunk the 21 days in slots of two days.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">After 21 days, only keep those habits that became part of you and brought good changes in your life.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Repeat those habits for 21 more days until you reach automation.</li></ul>

6 – Build a 21-Day Habit Challenge

Most people don't achieve anything in their life because most people don't do anything in their life. If you belong to the number who will say, 'I will read the first chapter tomorrow', put this book down. Forget the book. I don't want you to read this book. If you're go Ng to read a chapter a day. Only then read the next line. You are starting a new life with this book. This book can be completely useless or completely valuable for you; it's up to you to decide.

There are three types of learners: Auditory, Visual And Kinaesthetic. Auditory learners learn thought talking and listening, visual people learn thought looking at things and reading things, and Kinaesthetic people learn thought experience. Every single person is partially Kinaesthetic, because everyone learns best thought experience. I've given more speeches after getting inspired by a music album than I have by reading books

Three Types Of Learners:

The Problem with traditional education is that We are taught 'what to learn' , but we are not taught 'how to apply'.We are taught to read and study a subject, but the first step of an education system should be to help people discover themselves and the way they learn best. Nobody teaches us how to learn, thought, and what is the best way we can learn. "People who study a lot often study about people who do not study at all."

Our Education System Sucks!

We should focus on questions, curiosity and appreciation. In my head, in the perfect school, every time someone asks a question, they will be told ' you are curious ', not ' you are stupid'.No question is stupid, it's just a way of seeing things. Something which is stupid to me is not stupid to you, and vice versa. Why do some people in school have the right to decide whether or not my questions are stupid? How can they dismiss me and my curiosity?Our school system doesn't focus on our strengths; instead, it ridiculous us for our weaknesses.

Focus 

If a student is good at something they would be encouraged to do more of that thing, meet more people from that field, explore the things they can do in that area, and be motivated to pursue what they like, instead of following the herd and doing engineering.My perfect school would be an immersive learning experience. One month of studying in the mountains, and the next month we would be on the road. The month after that we would be on a beach. We learn so much more through Experience than we would ever do from textbooks. And that is what we need to promote.

In An Ideal School 

Until we admit that we suck at things, we won't be able to work on the part that sucks, and our ego won't let us grow.

Being stuck at something even when you know you are bad at it. It is important to improve, but the other thing as important as Improving is knowing when to quit.If something is not working out for you, quit. Life is too short and there are too many other opportunities to be stuck at a thing that is not working out.If you think you can get better at it. Research and learn and get better. If you think you can't do it, take professional help and find someone who can do it for you. But don't let it stop you from growing.You suck more if you think you don't suck.

You Suck - Admit It!

Life is like a buffet; get up and pick what you want. Try looking at, smelling and eating different things, and then take more of what you like. Don't treat it like an à la carte, because no one is going to serve you your favourite dish on the table

The people who are made fun of aren't stupid, it's the people who make fun of them that are.The hardest realities of your life teach you the most important lessons.

Guess what's the best thing about getting rich? You only have to be right once .You can fail 999 times but if you get it right once , boom! You are going to the moon .

You have to choose what fits you , you don't need to have a business because i did it, you don,t have to study a particular course because your best friend is doing it, and you certainly don't need to go for a government job because your parents did it.not everyone wants to have a nine to five job; similarly not everyone wants to be an enterpreneur or a content creator, and that is completely okey.I believe that people can be a really good number 4 or number 6, but they don't realize it. everybody wants to become number 1. not everyone can be a king. A few have to be kingmakers.

Do what works for you

When you feel like you have nothing, no experience, no connections, no money, you still have the biggest power of them all- The power to ask! again and again till you get a yes.

<ol><li class="ql-align-justify">You don,t need millions in investment to back you in order to start something. Start with whatever you have, and grow it.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Keep trying different ways of reaching your goals, irrespective of how unconventional they are.</li></ol>

Start Something

Remember, people can only make fun of things you yourself are conscious about. Once you join them in the laughter and start taking the jokes, the laughter will stop.The only thing that is stopping you from growing is your fear of looking stupid in front of people.Don't walk away from negative people, RUN.You know exectly what you have to do. You just have to defeat your fear. stop caring about what others think and win at life.

Be Ready To Look Stupid

Set goals, But focus far more on the process that'll get you there. Simply put in a system and follow it to reach your ultimate destination. You need to push yourself in the right direction, in the direction that takes you one step closer to your aim, one that doesn't mess with it. Also, beware of the fact that your goal is affected by factors beyond your control.You won't be able to achieve your goals if you only focus on them; instead, focus on your daily habits--- that will dictate whether on not you will achieve your goals.

Don't Focus On Your Goals

Without overthinking, life gets ten times better. Honestly, thinking has caused me more harm than not thinking has ever done. It has burned more bridges than I was able to build in the first place.Thinking is like a prison and your success is the prisoner. once you set yourself free, once you stop giving things a second, third, fourth thought, you break free. you will stop thinking and start doing.If you waste all your time thinking, When will you get the time to live?

Just Stop Overthinking.

You see something new; you find out about the mind-blowing features of it and then you add your own touch to that something.THE ONLY ART I'LL EVER STUDY IS STUFF THAT I CAN STEAL FROM ~ DAVID BOWIEArt is twice removed from reality.Be inspired and influenced by what is already around and make it your own. Take inspiration from different places and create something of your own.None of us would've learnt anything if there was nothing to copy from.

Start Innovating, Start Copying

The easiest way to get rich is to become the producer of the thing you consume the most.Answer this one question today: Are you a consumer or are you a producer? This one question has the power to drastically shift your mindset from a person who is just thinking or dreaming about achieving big things to a person who actually achieves those dreams.There are two kinds of people in life. Achievers, and those who think they want to become achievers .The people who consume end up spending more, and people who produce end up earning more.Be an executor instead of a knowledge hoarder.

The 'VS' Game

If you learn how to have leverage over people, success become easy for you. The only way you can make a lot of money through video production is when you have more knowledge and skills than the remaining 99 per cent of the people who are already in the market.
